REGULATORY | CONVENTIONAL MILLS | ISL

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regulates uranium recovery facilities in Arizona, Nebraska, New Mexico, South Dakota, and Wyoming. Uranium recovery facilities in Utah, Colorado, Texas, and Washington, are regulated by the state, under an agreement with the NRC.   Uranium recovery includes in situ leach (ISL) operations, also referred to as in situ recovery (ISR), and conventional mills. ISL well fields also require underground injection control (UIC) permits from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), or delegated state, and an aquifer exemption from the EPA and any EPA delegated state.
